I always love it when a new White Dwarf comes to my mailbox and this months issue is no different. What I love about this issue is that they have TWO great tactic articles and a battle report. Today, I would like to talk about the Fantasy Tactica article titled Rush and Rend. I particularly absorbed every word of it because I am playing a Bretonnian army right now. In fact, I will be going to a tournament in a few weeks and I am aching for some tips on how to work the army. Rush and Rend provides some tips and a possible army list for the Bretonnians, no less. What I thought was interesting was how small the Bretonnian army was in the magazine. For the same points, I have 3 more dispel scrolls, a unit of men at arms, and a unit of Grail Knights. What is different? Well, the biggest reason is my Lord. My lord costs only 237 points. In the magazine, their lord is 728 points. Quite a difference. Arguably, their choice is one mean-machine but played well, my budget-Bretonnian is not something to dismiss lightly. Even if he was, I still can field 2 more units, of large size and I have increased my magic potential. The former is important because fighting a swarm army, I am going to need protection against my vulnerable flanks. The latter is great protection against magic heavy opponents. Sure, I sacrifice a mobile monster killer but I still have Pegasus knights and archers and the grail knights are fearless and can pack a punch when at their charge.
